During an IllyVoIP app call, use the audio control to choose where you hear the conversation. A headset paired in Android is not always an available call-audio route, so check the route shown inside the active call as well as the device’s Bluetooth status.
These steps cover the Android app controls in version 1.0.46, build 272. Use your own account and the permissions assigned to it. Other platforms or releases can have different controls.
1. Prepare the headset before calling
- Pair and connect the headset through Android’s Bluetooth settings using the manufacturer’s normal procedure.
- Allow IllyVoIP’s relevant nearby-device or Bluetooth permission if requested. Microphone and notification access are separate permissions.
- Check the headset’s battery, volume and physical mute control.
- For a test, agree with another person on a short call and check the applicable rate. Do not call an unrelated customer simply to test audio.
Connect the headset before the conversation when possible. If another device is already using it, resolve that connection before repeatedly changing routes in IllyVoIP. A headset that works for music may still need a different device connection for two-way call audio.
2. Open the in-call audio control
- Start or answer the intended call and open its call controls.
- Find the audio output control. When a Bluetooth call route is available, it shows the current device and opens Audio devices.
- Choose the intended offered route: Phone, Speaker, or the available Bluetooth device. A named headset can appear instead of the generic Bluetooth label.
- Wait for the selection to complete and check the selected state. Confirm with the other person that you can hear one another.
When no Bluetooth route is available, the simpler Speaker control switches speakerphone instead of presenting the same device list. The offered routes depend on the hardware and current operating-system state; a tablet may not provide the same private earpiece behavior as a phone.
3. Separate output from microphone problems
- You cannot hear them: check the selected output, call volume and whether the headset is actually connected.
- They cannot hear you: check the app’s microphone permission, its Mute control and the headset’s own mute switch. Changing to a louder speaker does not remove microphone mute.
- Both directions break up: note the network and try a controlled comparison after the call. Bluetooth selection alone does not establish a network fault.
Choose a private output when the conversation contains sensitive information. Switching to Speaker can make the other person audible to people nearby. Tell the caller before using it in a shared space.
4. Handle a route that becomes unavailable
- If the headset disconnects, inspect the route currently shown; do not assume the fallback is always the one you want.
- If the app reports that a route is unavailable, keep the call state in view and choose an actually available alternative.
- Reconnect the headset through the device’s normal controls if needed, then reopen Audio devices.
- Select it once and verify the new state before continuing.
Some call actions are unavailable while a transfer is busy. Wait for that operation to resolve rather than treating every temporarily disabled audio button as a missing permission. Do not close the app in the middle of an uncertain transfer just to make the audio picker reappear.
5. Record a useful troubleshooting comparison
Compare the same short call setup using Phone, Speaker and the intended headset where available. Note which direction fails and whether switching routes changes it. Stop when you have enough evidence; repeated paid calls with unrelated setting changes make the result harder to interpret.
For Support, provide the phone and headset models, Android and app versions, route displayed, incident time and call reference. Explain whether the headset was connected before the call or added during it. These instructions describe available controls, not physical certification of every Bluetooth device.
