Open telephone links with the IllyVoIP Android app

Open a tel link in the IllyVoIP Android dialer, check the number and place the call deliberately without assuming default-phone behavior.

On Android, a telephone link can offer IllyVoIP as an application for opening the number. Selecting it brings the number into the app’s dialer so you can review it before calling. The link itself does not place an IllyVoIP call automatically.

These steps cover the Android app controls in version 1.0.46, build 272. Use your own account and the permissions assigned to it. Other platforms or releases can have different controls.

1. Start with an ordinary telephone link

A website, email or contact application may expose a number as a tel: link. Whether Android shows an app chooser depends on the source application, installed handlers and your existing defaults. A number displayed as plain text is not necessarily such a link.

  1. Make sure the official IllyVoIP Android app is installed and you can sign in.
  2. Tap a telephone link from a source you trust.
  3. If Android offers a choice, select IllyVoIP. Use a one-time choice first when available so you can confirm the behavior before setting a default.
  4. Allow the app to open. Complete sign-in or required account steps if needed, then inspect the dialer.

2. Check the number before pressing Call

  1. Compare the number in the dialer with the number you intended to call. Include the correct country code for an external international destination.
  2. Check any copied extension or special characters carefully. A link can contain formatting or parameters that do not mean the same thing as the digits needed for the call.
  3. Confirm the account, available balance and intended calling identity. Review the rate where shown.
  4. Press the call action only when ready. Normal IllyVoIP service charges and destination rules apply.

For example, a simple link such as tel:+12025550123 supplies a number to review; it does not prove that the number belongs to the organization named on the page. Avoid complex extension or post-dial syntax unless its behavior has been verified for your installed app. You can correct or clear the dialer field before calling.

If IllyVoIP is not offered

Try a genuine telephone link from another trusted source. Some applications handle clicks internally instead of handing them to Android. If another phone app is already the default, review that app’s open-by-default settings using the Android controls available on your device. Menu wording varies by manufacturer; do not disable unrelated security settings.

As a fallback, copy the intended number, open IllyVoIP and paste or type it into the keypad. Review it just as carefully. This reaches the same deliberate call step without relying on the source application’s link handling.

If the app opens but calling fails

Separate link handling from calling readiness. A prefilled number does not establish microphone access, account verification, credit or an available calling connection. Use the app setup guide for those checks. If a different number appears, preserve the original link privately and report the source app and the result, with personal data removed.

These instructions do not claim that IllyVoIP replaces Android’s complete system phone or emergency-calling functions, and they do not describe an iPhone default-dialer setting. Keep the scope to opening a number in the IllyVoIP Android dialer.
