Use Sync device contacts to bring selected telephone contacts from your phone into IllyVoIP Contact Center. Choose the contacts deliberately: importing an address book makes those records available under your IllyVoIP account’s contact permissions. It is not required just to type a number and call it.
These steps cover the Android app controls in version 1.0.46, build 272. Use your own account and the permissions assigned to it. Other platforms or releases can have different controls.
1. Open contact sync and choose its scope
- Open the app’s Contacts screen and choose Sync device contacts when offered for your account.
- Read the Sync phone contacts explanation. Choose Select contacts to control which records are imported.
- Use Sync all only if you intend to import all eligible phone contacts. If you opened this by mistake, cancel before continuing.
This workflow reads contacts from the device and sends the selected contact information to IllyVoIP. It is different from connecting Google or importing a CSV file. Do not assume it maintains an automatic two-way link or removes an IllyVoIP record when you later delete the phone’s copy.
2. Allow phone contact access
- When Android asks for contact permission, allow access if you want to proceed.
- If permission was previously blocked, use the offered Open settings action to review IllyVoIP’s contact permission, then return to the app.
- Wait for the contacts to load. A message that no local contacts with phone numbers were found is different from a failed upload. Check that the intended contacts actually exist in the phone address book and have telephone numbers.
Contact permission is separate from microphone and notification permissions. Granting it does not change the permissions of other IllyVoIP users or give you access to another account’s records.
3. Select and import the intended contacts
- On Select contacts, use Search contacts to find the people you need. Review the displayed names and numbers before checking them.
- Read the selected count. If a contact has several numbers, check the resulting IllyVoIP records afterward rather than assuming the count represents unique people.
- Choose Sync with the displayed count. Allow the reading and uploading stages to finish; do not start another sync while one is running.
- Read the completion message. It distinguishes new imports, updated records and entries already current.
4. Check the imported records
Return to Contacts and search for a small sample of the selected numbers. Confirm the correct person, number and available contact details. A skipped or already-current result can mean the record did not need another import; it does not automatically mean the person was lost. Conversely, a success message is not evidence that every contact in the entire device address book was selected.
If you change your selection and leave the picker, follow the unsaved-changes prompt rather than assuming it has submitted. Selecting a checkbox is not the same operation as completing the sync.
If the result is uncertain
For a connection error, check Contacts before repeating the same selection. A lost response can leave you unsure which work completed. Keep the approximate time, selected scope and displayed error for Support, with personal names and numbers concealed in screenshots. Do not upload a full address-book export just to report a sync error. For file-based imports or more structured field mapping, use the separate contact-import guide.
